Using Vinegar For Carpet Cleaning

The carpet cleaning solution we recommend more often than any other can’t be found in the cleaning aisle of your local store.

It’s not bleach or a white, powdery substance and its bottle doesn’t contain a spray nozzle (although maybe it should!). And, even better, it’s much cheaper than all of those products too

That’s right. In our opinion, vinegar is the best way to clean carpet without chemicals or soap.

Outside of hiring a professional Kenosha carpet cleaner, vinegar removes most carpet stains better than almost any other liquid or store-bought cleaning product.

So, why is vinegar such a powerful cleaning agent?

Cleaning with Vinegar

Here are some of the cleaning advantages of vinegar compared to pungent chemicals and detergents:

  • Biodegradable
  • Non-toxic
  • No residue
  • Clean odor
  • Cost

Vinegar is a mild, biodegradable organic acid that is non-toxic and safe for families and their pets. While vinegar does have a distinct smell, its odor is harmless and much less pungent than chemical cleaning products. For green cleaning, vinegar is a great choice.

And, for cost-conscious cleaners, vinegar is much cheaper than store-bought cleaning chemicals and products and will last much longer too!

Carpet Stain Removal

Kenosha Carpet Cleaning Blog often recommends using vinegar for carpet stain removal, including chocolate carpet stains, red wine stains and a variety of liquid-based stains. Visit our Spot Removal Guide for the full list of stains you can clean with vinegar.

Cleaning carpet with vinegar is a simple process. Once you have blotted a carpet stain with a damp white cloth, you can then create a cleaning solution of half water and half vinegar and saturate the stain with the solution.

In fact, it might not be a bad idea to take an empty spray bottle and fill it with the vinegar solution so that you already have it on hand and can react to carpet stains quickly.

Unlike soap or chemicals, the vinegar cleaning solution won’t create any residue within your carpet. Rinse the area with water once complete and dry it with another white cloth as soon as you’re finished. This process should remove all traces of the vinegar from your carpet.

Professional Carpet Cleaning Service

Cleaning with vinegar is a great choice for most surfaces and stains. However, there are some instances in which vinegar doesn’t work as well. Blood, ice cream, ink and other stains can’t be cleaned with vinegar.

For blood, grass and carpet stains that can’t be removed with vinegar, consider hiring a professional carpet cleaner in Kenosha. It’s also important to have your carpets deep cleaned at least once a year, as vinegar cannot reach dirt embedded within the carpet fibers.

Although they do not use vinegar for their carpet cleaning service, Nature’s Way Chem-Dry in Burlington is a green cleaning company. Their process requires minimal water, no soap and no harsh chemicals, making it eco-friendly and pet- and family-friendly too!

Besides carpet, you can also use vinegar to clean countertops, stainless steel, tile, hardwood floors and even clothing, but it’s not recommended for stone or marble. Vinegar has also been known to kill and remove bacteria and viruses from various surfaces.
