Tips to Remove Pet Hair From Carpet
Everyone loves their pet. Not everyone loves some of the messes a pet can create in your home. Pet urine can be an extremely harmful carpet stain that can even permeate into floor boards and walls. Fortunately, pets can be trained to go to the bathroom outdoors or in their litter box and can drastically reduce pet urine stains over time.
A much more common mess related to pets is pet hair. Depending on the type of dog or cat you own, you might constantly deal with pet hair in your carpet, rugs and furniture due to regular shedding.
While pet hair isn’t as damaging as pet urine, it is much more frequent and is spread out across your entire home, unlike pet urine, which is usually centralized in one spot.
Not to worry. There are several ways you can remove pet hair from your carpet and your home:
Wet Sponge
The easiest method to remove pet hair is to simply vacuum as much of the hair as you can. Be sure to use a back-and-forth motion and concentrate on corners and against floor boards where the hair might accumulate. Once you have thoroughly vacuumed, take a damp sponge and brush it across the surface of the carpet. You shouldn’t have to push too hard. The pet hair should clump together due to the moisture on the sponge and lift right out of the carpet or the furniture. Once the bulk of the hair has been removed with the sponge, you can vacuum over the carpet one more time for good measure.
Fabric Softener
Mix together a solution of one part fabric softener and three parts water. You can put the solution in a spray bottle if you have one or just use a bucket or another container. Once you have created the solution, either dab it over the pet hair or mist it across your carpet, if you have a spray bottle. Let the area dry (it shouldn’t take long if you lightly applied the solution). Then vacuum the areas where you sprayed the solution. The mix of fabric softener and moisture should loosen the pet hair and let the vacuum cleaner lift it off your carpet.
Baking Soda
This is also one of the easier methods to remove pet hair from carpet. All you need to do is sprinkle baking soda over the areas with a lot of pet hair. Let the baking soda sit for a few minutes then vacuum using the methods recommended here. The bonus of this option is that the baking soda should also help deodorize the room to an extent.
Unfortunately, it’s a fact of pet ownership that there will be messes and spots associated with your furry friend. It’s recommended that homes in Kenosha with pets should have their carpets cleaned every 12 months due to the wear and tear animals can inflict on carpet.
