Carpet Stain Removal: Why Do Some Stains Return?

soap on carpetHave you ever made lasagna? Cooking lasagna can be a big mess. Your lasagna pan will be covered in sauce and cheese and you’ll have to soak it in water, scrub it with soap and repeat one or two times. It might not be easy, but eventually enough soap and water will remove all the lasagna from the pan.

And, once all of the lasagna is cleaned out of the pan, it won’t come back, at least not until you cook lasagna again.

Now, you’re probably wondering, “What does lasagna have to do with a carpet cleaning blog?” Well …

Cleaning lasagna pans and cleaning carpet is not the same.

Lots of soap and lots of water are great for cleaning lasagna pans, our hands, clothing, cars, countertops and countless other household items. But lots of soap and lots of water are very bad for cleaning carpet:

Why is Soap Bad for Cleaning Carpet?

When you use too much water and soap for carpet stain removal, there is a very good chance the stain will return not long after.

This occurs because traditional steam cleaning and carpet shampooer cleaning services use a lot of soap in order to remove carpet stains. In fact, they use so much soap that when it comes time to rinse it out of the carpet, it’s almost impossible to remove 100% of the water.

That’s not a problem with rinsing dishes, washing your hands or washing your car. Eventually, with enough water, you will remove 100% of the soap.

When soap is left behind in the carpet it essentially acts like a magnet for dirt, soil and other contaminants in the carpet. The soap will pull all of the dirt together to the surface and recreate the initial stain you removed with dirt that had been embedded in the fiber.

In some instances, if a lot of soap was left in the carpet, the stain could be even bigger than before.

Because carpet shampooers and carpet rental machines require so much soap, they require a lot of water to attempt to rinse out the soap, which is what leads to wet carpets for one or two days after your carpet cleaning service and creates the potential for mold and mildew growth.

You can see now that cleaning a lasagna pan and cleaning carpet is not the same.
